PRIMROSE INN, 73 Mount Desert St., is a lovely 1878 Victorian bed-and-breakfast with spacious rooms, afternoon tea, and a full breakfast each morning. Dogs may stay in the ground-floor apartment only for a refundable $75 one-time fee. This means that if your dog is well-behaved, the next time you stay here you will not have to pay the additional $75. The apartment rents by the week. You should make your reservation well in advance, as it books early.

ROSE EDEN COTTAGES is a pet-friendly place with housekeeping cottages decorated in various Maine themes. Each cottage has cable TV, electric heat, and private baths with showers; some also have coffeemakers, microwaves, and refrigerators.

The homes feature cathedral ceilings, kitchens and dining areas, living rooms, deck, and fieldstone fireplaces.

WONDERVIEW INN AND SUITES ROSE INN is situated on the old estate of Mary Roberts Rinehart, the famous mystery writer. The view is, in fact, a wonder; From atop the hill it is breath-taking. It is less than a mile from the harbor, and the shuttle to town comes right to the door. The rooms are large and the service is exceptional. Each pet is an additional $10 per night or $15 per stay.
